A window had opened to finally meet my girlfriend's family, who was visiting the Southwestern part of Puerto Rico. I would drive from the north, cross through the central mountain system, and arrive in the South within an hour and a half. Tropical Storm Bertha, struck on the same day of my travel. In Puerto Rican culture, familial duties take priority over wild natural phenomena, so I decided to face the storm head-on: a feat less dangerous than the wrath of a Puerto Rican woman.
