During my morning walk along the beach on Sanibel Island, I saw a pelican come in for a landing in a tree off to my left. Since I'm not exactly a morning person, it wasn't until I inspected the tree a bit closer did I notice more than a dozen pelicans preening and grooming in the same tree. Sanibel Island is a haven for wildlife of all types, especially birds. It is the home of J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, originally created by President Harry Truman in 1945.
