The sound of the guns had not yet hit these kids at a Civil War reenactment at Fort Stevens,Oregon; the Columbia River is in the background. This annual event is put on by the Northwest Civil War Council and draws reenactors from all over the West Coast, including Washington, California, Nevada, Idaho and Canada. My next frame showed their reaction (hands to ears) but I prefer this shot, since the puffs of smoke from the rifles are more defined and contrasted to the nonchalance of the kids.
