A Perfect Catch
After the patience comes the prize. She singled out a small fish in the shoal and plunged her head and neck into the still lake to pinch it from safety. It was approaching early evening and this was the fourth fish she caught in 3 hours so she was rewarded for he time and skill. Herons, like many fish eating wading birds, have amazing depth perception, tracking abilities and lighting reflexes to enable them to successfully hunt in this way. It is beautiful to witness them at work.
