Watching two elks slug it out to capture the attention of a mating partner is something I will not forget for the rest of my life. It was at that instant that I understood what Survival of the fittest meant. This was one photo for which we were at the right place at the right time. Sense of place it definitely was to see one elk try to fight off another and push the other one off in to the lack in the background.
