    One morning my cat discovered a hurt bird and killed it. Both saddened and fascinated I was reminded that cats are not people. I think one of the reasons people love pets is because they are different from people, both honestly and unapologetically so. We do love them for the ways that they remind us of ourselves, and even more for their nobler virtues, but it is their darker animal side that makes them so interesting.
