    Chincoteague Ponies grazing on the island! The Fire Volunteer Fire Company maintains a herd of approximately 150 adult ponies. For eighty-nine years the volunteer fire department has been auctioning them off. In 1961 Twentieth Century Fox premiered the movie Misty of Chincoteague.
