"Matsuri" Photo by Nina, Age 9
Nagakute, the town in Japan that we live in, has been holding a festival of thanks in years when the harvest is good, for over 450 years. Starting at 6:00 in the morning, the participants march around town, stopping at various locations to fire their matchlock muskets and have mock battles. It has been passed on from generation to generation among local families, and everyone in the family, from kids to grandparents, participate. These are some of the photos we got.
Nina! This is one of our favorites! it has great energy and really feels like you were "in there." Exactly what my editors at National Geographic would have asked me to try to get. (You might end up getting my job if Im not careful!) Hawkeye wants to know if you were riding a horse or your dad when you took this! He says it looks like you were moving with them. Which is good! Great action! The way shapes and people go off the edges makes the frame even more powerful.
