    Today in Northern MI it's opening day of deer season, and while most were out in the woods I was in my living room shooting birds! American Goldfinch: If you want 'wild canaries" put up a thistle feeder- these seeds are irresistible to goldfinches, as is this left over coneflower head. Adaptive and opportunistic, goldfinches exploit all open habitats and are one of our most abundant native birds.
