The ice was in a stream that was partially frozen in the 10 degree cold air. I used a macro lens, but the crystals were quite large. The one with the flare on it was about 2 inches long. I converted the image to black and white, since the colors in the original didn't add anything to the image. The blurry background is the flowing stream water. I exposed this shot at ¼ second and used a tripod to blur out the water and freeze the ice. The sun created the flare on the ice crystal.
