9400 Ft.
The top of Sani Pass in Lesotho is breathtaking. It is also very desolate and winter is harsh. There are no trees or brush for firewood and local people struggle. This shepherd from Lesotho climbs down to the base of Sani Pass several times a week to gather firewood for his family. They need the wood to survive. His eyes spoke to me. They told me his life was hard, but they also spoke of strength and pride. He let me take his photo and then he continued on his way up the pass to 9400ft.
