A child's toy, a child's dinner
In the heart of Brazil, the state of Mato Grosso is home to an Indigenous people called the Xavante. After a long day of research, I came back to my host family to find one of their sons playing with a chick that escaped from a neighbors garden. What was supposed to be someones dinner was now his toy. In the fifty years post-contact, massive deforestation of Xavante land has driven away game for hunting. Instead they now rely on the few crops they can grow and industrialized food from the city.
