Kinder Scout
It is the scene of the most important event in British rambling history. On 24 April 1932, the Manchester area committee of the British Workers' Sports Federation staged a mass trespass on Kinder Scout. Five of the trespassers were accused of "riotous assembly" and jailed for between two and six months. A public outcry ensued. In 1949, the Labour government passed the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act.
