My grandma washing dishes in the kitchen. It was taken on the eve of Christmas Dinner, the eve of a transition to another year of being together as a family. The Chinese character in the top right corner of the image is the bottom character of a duìlián, a line of poetry normally placed on a door in a Chinese household. The character shown is 意, which signifies, "Heart, Soul, and Conscience," or alternatively, "thoughts, opinions of the mind."
