North Face of the Eiger
It was late summer and I longed to see the mountains before the bitter winter snows set in. I hopped on a train and visited Interlaken and Grindewald in Switzerland for a weekend. I began trekking at sunrise from the base of the Eiger down to Kleine Scheidegg and stumbled across a perfectly still, blue lake. By then the sun had come up and the Eiger revealed in all her majesty. Like many others, I was humbled by how dramatic and imposing the North Face was. "People actually climb that?!"
