Dinner is Served Upside Down
This is an unusual way to eat, but that's the way Bushtits do it. Many times I've spotted these small grey bodies gripping the Douglas Fir in a bat-like manner while they search for insects. Other times, I hear the sweet melodies of these tiny songbirds just before they appear in flocks of ten or more. This inquisitive male was in the backyard, pilfering sunflower seeds (for the first time I've ever seen one do it!) instead of the suet feeder exclusively.
Photographed from 35-40 feet away.
