What if Cormac McCarthy wrote Bambi? This unfortunate creature met it's end on the side of the road near Canyon Lake, Texas. It was not my intent on photographing the dead deer, rather I had seen a grove of dead trees that I wanted to photograph and discovered the deer when I got out of the car. The combination of dead animals and dead trees along with a cold gray winter sky made for a dark somber image. This is a bracketed shot using HDR software to bring out details and desaturated color.
