Hiking the steep trail on Pichincha, one of Ecuador's prominent volcanoes, we encountered a guide returning horses, who paused from his work for a friendly greeting. The rugged landscape felt a whole different world from the equally beautiful cityscape of Quito, spread seemingly endlessly in the distance. The proximity of breathtaking nature and fast-paced modernities encapsulated my experiences in Ecuador as a whole.
