Stump Standing
On my way to Ape Caves in Cougar, WA I noticed a beach littered with tree stumps. My girlfriend and I pulled off the road, jumped a guard rail and hiked down. When we made it to the water we realized we were standing on what would become the river floor. Typically I visit Cougar in the summer when the river is deeper due to snow runoff from Mount Saint Helens. Soon this unearthly display will be drowned out again, but for now I will imagine I'm standing on the surface of another planet.
