    My family and I decided to shelter in place during Hurricane Ike in 2008. This meant we witnessed the immediate aftermath firsthand. Deciding an air conditioned car was better than the hot, humid conditions outside, we went exploring. As we approached the Pleasure Island Marina in Port Arthur, Texas, nothing was where it belonged. Boats, such as the ones pictured, were strewn across the grass, some in piles. Those still in the water, floated battered or half sunk.
