Wood carvings of Sri Lanka
These intricate wood carvings are from an old place of worship in the small village of Embekke, near Kandy in Sri Lanka. The whole structure is made out of intricately carved wooden columns and a roof of wood without any metal nails. First built in 1370 the structure would have been renovated many times as wood does not last that long. Embekke is considered the best place in Sri Lanka, some claim, in the world, to see finest wood carving work.
