The waves pounded against the rocks surrounding the path that stretched a little ways into the ocean. A group of tourists surrounded the pelican, and I waited patiently as they snapped away at the equally patient bird. I raised my camera, a Canon Rebel EOS ii, and snapped the shutter, the noise of the film winding far noisier than the digital cellphones of the tourists. Still the pelican sat, proud, patient, before the horizon.
