Split-Rock Tree
The split-rock tree immediately came to mind for this assignment. I've only visited towards sunset - not been satisfied with my photos with the light behind it. This time, I went in the morning. No atmospherics - just the hard light of day for a tree that cracked a boulder.
My mother-in-law has just passed away. It reminded me of her strong grip on life! Like this pine that has embedded itself into a rock. She was a tree of life. A symbol for the tree? Or maybe the tree is a symbol for her.
