Coir in the making
Girls work at their chore in the family undertaking of soaking coconuts in a lagoon behind Kovalam Beach, splitting the coconuts, then separating the husks from fiber, and finally reducing the fiber from pulp into coir, which is used to manufacture rope and similar coir products. 35mm slide taken August 1966 and digitized by Michael Gannett.
