Relatively few birds live longer than 5 years; some individuals may reach 11 years of age. Fran found out that this is a female that nests on North Manitou Island, MI. She hatched on the mainland portion of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakshore in 2010 and returned to breed in 2011 at Manistee, MI. In 2012 she moved to North Manitou and has been nesting there ever since.
