Edit Photo Details Soft corals resist ocean acidification   #fiji #climate_change #beqa_lagoon #soft_corals #ocean_acidification
In the last few years of diving in Beqa lagoon the soft corals seem to be flourishing but at the same time, there seems to be more evidence of dying hard corals. Hard corals are being hit by ocean acidification caused by increased atmospheric CO2 which makes it hard for them to grow their internal calcium carbonate skeletal structure. Soft corals are beautiful but they do not provide the coastal protection that hard corals can.
