The beauty of the sunrise as seen from the shore at Port Angeles on the edge of Washington's Olympic National Park is augmented by the silhouette of a man-made intruder and the gleam of its lights. To me it illustrates both the rich maritime heritage of the U.S., which has the eighth longest coastline on earth, and the beauty that results when the natural and the artificial come together harmoniously.
