Shipwreck New Orleans in Lake Huron, MI
The shipwreck NEW ORLEANS rests 15 feet under the waves in Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. The white dot just below the shipwreck is an official sanctuary mooring buoy; one of over 30 maintained on shipwrecks in northwest Lake Huron. The paddle wheeler ran aground June 14, 1849, and is the earliest documented shipwreck in sanctuary waters. Today, the NEW ORLEANS is a popular snorkel and dive site.
