    Throughout the midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak, no one dared look back into the blackness from which we had come. But as the sun rose, burning off the fog that had surrounded us, I captured this image at Gilman's point, looking back towards Mt. Mawenzi. The moment was surreal, otherworldly.
