A toquila straw hat (commonly misreferred to as a 'Panama Hat') are of Ecuadorian origin, and technically from Montecristi (Manabi Province). The quality (and respective cost) depend mainly on the weaves per square inch, reaching as many as 2500. These hats can be commonly found throughout Ecuador, but mainly in Quito, Cuenca, Otavalo and obviously, Montecristi.
