I was Martha's care companion two years of her middle stages of Alzheimer's.This portrait was taken on our last day together. The road was hugging the riverbed. In this brief moment Martha is present She is being calmed by the waters presence and is able to experience a memory from her past mind. You can see it in her eyes. She grew up surrounded by water in NC.It's a humbling gift observing these moments .The river being reflected in her glasses and also in her beautiful mind.
