Oriental Darter (a.k.a. anhinga), Sabah
I spotted this Darter in a small rainforest river estuary in the Kinabatangan Wildlife Reserve, part of the Sabah (Borneo) National Parks system. It hunts with its body submerged in water, using its long pointed beak to spear fish. It then brings the fish to the surface before tossing it in the air and swallowing it head first. In this shot, it was between hunting dives and was perched on a broken tree trunk with its wings held open to dry in the early morning sun.
