A small world unto themselves. Five people enjoy the view from this volcanic rock column on the edge of the caldera. At one time this would have been in the middle of the island. Santorini ‘blew up’ about 3,600 years ago in one of the biggest volcanic explosions in recorded history. Two lovely Aegean towns, Fira and Oia, cling to the steep sides of the sea-filled caldera that’s left. The 2-1/2 to 3 hour walk along the caldera rim between the towns is well worth it.
