The human friendly hummingbird was raised at a hummingbird sanctuary near Montego Bay, Jamaica. A woman in the 1930's started the sanctuary and established a rapport with the birds so they were raised to enjoy human contact. The current manager was a young boy when he first started working there and he has continued to use her methods to raise the birds.
