The Victories of Peace
This arch was designed by Charles Tilton who also had the town named after him in which it sits. Charles went to see the Arch of Titus in Rome and designed this on the towns hilltop. It symbolized the "victories of peace rather than those of war". It was built in 1882. The keystone at the bottom of the monuments sits a lead box with then current newspapers, gold and silver coins inscribed "Memorial Arch of Tilton."
