    Reported by:

A brief moment of slack time while working on the Russian Icebreaker Vladimir Ignatyuk resupplying McMurdo Station on Ross Island, Antarctica. A Minke Whale dives under the fast ice surrounding Ross Island, with Mount Erebus, an active volcano on the island, prominent in the background. I love that you can see steam rising from the volcano.

I like this photo because it shows a pristine landscape with a large animal (whale) giving it context. The composition is great and plays well with the negative space. Underexpose the snow and give it a little more detail and you'll have a better shot.
