While Mayor Rob Ford made the rest of Toronto notorious, Ward's Island's unofficial mayor, Jimmy Jones, executed his "duties" with kindness and funny stories drawn from a lifetime of islanding. Now 85, Jimmy still jokes like a schoolboy when he meets fellow islanders on his daily strolls. His lily white hair lit up like a hydrogen bomb in the sunlight, so we moved inside his densely furnished cottage for a portrait.
