The alpine forest region of the trail to Mt. Kilimanjaro is home to the giant groundsels. These extraordinary trees are a perfect examples of evolution in extreme climates. Their leaves dont shed. When they grow old they just wrap the stem to save it from the extreme cold. Exploration to me is finding such unique aspects of nature that we may never witness in our daily lives.
