African Tailor Shop, Shy and Proud
I had already walked past the tailor shop in the center of Tamale Central Market when I was whistled at and asked to return. "Make you take my picture!" said the proud tailer on the right. "No!" her sister, left, scoffed. Used and repaired sewing machines are considered quite valuable in Tamale, and are one of the types of "e-waste" imported by Chendiba. The fascination of white tourists with the most ordinary activity - like sewing or appliance repair - fascinates Africans, in turn.
