    I took this photo as part of my National Geographic Photo Workshop in Washington D.C. assignment to photograph the monuments in the early morning light. I never use flash in my photography work anymore because I feel like adding flash white-washes all of the emotion out of the image. The reason this image is so powerful in my eyes, is because the contrast of the light areas and the dark areas are equally important to create a genuine feeling of a "Sense of Place"
