    At an altitude of 3,000 meters, Hawaiian 'Ohelo thrives on the barren lava field spewed out from Mauna Loa in the past century or so. Standing in the distance is the dormant Mauna Kea. With its summit hosting some of the most powerful telescopes in the world, Mauna Kea has recently sparked fierce debates about nature conservation, ancient sacredness, Hawaiian politics, and science research.
