In Mother's Shadow
The bond between any mother and child is often quite powerful, but perhaps none more so than the bond of a mother elephant and her calf. The mother carries the child in her womb for about 22 months, the longest gestation period of any mammal. And after the birth of the nearly 200 pound calf, she still provides an incomparable mobile home, complete with wholesome milk, shade, the fanning of her ears, and protection of her tusks. This little guy was not out of her sight for a second.
