This croaking ground dove perched near my cabana in a coastal area in rural Ecuador. A co-infection of dengue and chikungunya viruses kicked me down for almost two months, and on my first outing/overnight stay, this dove perched on the wire near my cabana. Its quiet presence seemed to convey the message, "Welcome back to the living."
