This was a typical day in downtown Bamako, Mali: hot, dusty, and noisy. I needed a break & was looking for some shade. Then I saw these two girls. As one girl was tending her flock of goats she was talking to her friend who was working inside the house. As the two laughed about part of their day, I captured this shot. For me, the look from the one in the window was timeless. The strength of these women as they took time away from their difficult days has always impressed me.
