A friend from near Dalmatia, Croatia loaned me her 1970s-era guidebook to then-Yugoslavia. The road to these mysterious ancient stones was extremely rough and there were warnings of landmines placed by the warring Serbs and Croats in the 1990s. These 10th century peoples are shrouded in mystery. One thing we noticed on nearly every stone was a man with a very large raised right hand. You can see my mom's finger pointing it out on the edge of the nearest stone.
