This shot is taken last fall at the root of Fogrufjoll mountains at Langisjor in Iceland. It shows a hard crust of volcanic ash from Eyjafjallajkull covering snow below the mountain. The snow under the ash-crust is slowly melting and these meltdown craters are formed.
