The Belogradchik Rocks
I took this photo recently during a trip to the Northwestern part of Bulgaria. Situated in the small town of Belogradchik, these rocks were formed during the Permian period, about 230 million years ago. They represent a group of bizarrely shaped sandstone, limestone and conglomerate rock formations, covering an area of 50 km2. They are absolutely stunning during any time of the day and especially at sunset when their colours are magical.
