    Father and son walking amongst the pyramids at Meroe archaeological site in the Nubian desert, Sudan. Meroe is an ancient city on the east bank of the Nile, it was the capital of the Kingdom of Kush for several centuries (c. 800 BC — c. 350 AD). The site was brought to the knowledge of Europeans in 1821.
