A fisherman casts into the water overlooking one of the refineries in Texas City. Texas City is one of the hubs for petroleum and petrochemical refining. It is the driving force behind the economy in the region. The Texas City Dike is a 5 mile stretch of land originally designed in the 1930's to prevent sediment accumulation from the Houston Ship Channel. It is a popular fishing destination for thousands of people, many of whom work along the Energy Corridor in Houston.
