Navigating freshwater icebergs on Alsek Lake in Alaska is as risky as it is beautiful. The'Growlers' are constantly shifting, sometimes with a thunderous roar theat precedes huge waves that can sink rafts and all in them. Alsek Lake often remains choked with rafts unable to get in or out. As a result, air evacuation is not unkown.
